cheesy guy

Project: Mascot Creation / Stickers

During finals season at Virginia Tech, the libraries host Cheesy Nights, a three-night event where volunteers and faculty grill and distribute free grilled cheese sandwiches and snacks to students. Alongside the food, attendees can enjoy free stickers and other merchandise as part of the event’s tradition. I was tasked with creating sticker designs for Spring 2024’s Cheesy Nights. With brand guidelines in mind, I decided to create a mascot for Cheesy Nights: Cheesy Guy (or Dude, for some). After approval from VT’s branding department, he became the face of the beloved event, and all 5,000 stickers of him were gone by the end of the week.

Cheesy Guy is inspired by retro-futurism and mid-century cartoon styles, especially prevalent in 1940s/50s Americana. Utilizing simple, bold lines, exaggerated expressions, and the bright VT colors, Cheesy Guy came to life to hail cheesy puns.
